Sydney Business and Technology User Group

UPDATED: See notes below.

I need your help please.

This month at the Sydney Business & Technology User Group (SBTUG) we’re covering online accounting, bookkeeping, time tracking and invoicing systems for freelancers and small businesses. But I need some guidance from you:

First, which products should we cover? I’m thinking products like Saasu, Xero, Freshbooks and Zoho. Which others should we include? – ideally we have time for five or six in total. What tools do you use in your business?

UPDATE: A few other products that have been suggested including:
Shoeboxed, MinuteDock, BankLink, FreeAgent, MYOB Live Accounts

And second, who would you recommend we ask to present on them? I’m hoping to have Marc from Saasu along and I’ve just started reaching out to Xero via Twitter. Is there someone you know who uses these products who would be an ideal presenter? Would you be an ideal presenter…

UPDATE 2: Many thanks for your help getting tonight’s SBTUG together. We now have the final agenda up with Saasu, Xero, MYOB, Shoeboxed and Freshbooks sessions, along with a big panel session with all speakers. Here’s the agenda:

5:45pm – Doors open
6:00pm – Welcome & Intro – Craig Bailey
6:15pm – Tech News – Nick Rayner
6:30pm – Facebook Privacy – Jodie Miners
6:45pm – Saasu – Marc Lehmann (Saasu CEO)
7:00pm – Xero – Sara Goepel (Xero Product Manager)
7:15pm – Pizza Break
7:45pm – Shoeboxed – Tobbi Walter (Shoeboxed CFO)
8:00pm – MYOB Live Accounts – Tim Molloy (MYOB Online – General Manager)
8:00pm – Freshbooks – Craig Bailey (Freshbooks – User & Fan :-)
8:30pm – Panel session for Q+A & Audience Suggestions
9:00pm – Finish

And if you’d like to attend, it’s on Wed 26 May, kicking off at 6pm. Full details on the SBTUG site.

You can RSVP here to let us know you’ll be coming.

  • Hi, I just came across your post. I would suggest to also look at unleashed software (nz based) which does inventory management and has just become an accredited xero partner. It might be helpful as the guys find that a lot of their customers are xero customers who need an inventory function, but it also links in with myob etc.- all about integration. http://www.unleashedsolutions.co.nz/
disclaimer: i work for a business incubator and unleashed are one of our clients. :-)

    hope it helps.

    • Thanks Sabrina. Looks like a good addition to Xero. Do you have any plans to integrate with Saasu aswell? I agree integration is a big part of the decision these days.

  • If you don’t mind looking at non-AU companies, check out http://www.openair.com. It’s not a full accounting system – but links to them – but the other features make it a killer option.

    1) It’s been around since Web 1.0
    2) it’s a great example of saas – it is updated almost every month with small new features that create huge value
    3) time tracking, invoicing, project budget management, multiple team support

I’ve used it since 2001 and for the price ($9/month), it’s far and away a key product my business relies on

  • For one of your next #SBTUGS we’d love to see our SaaS product for Accounting Frms covered: RSDataWeb is a data automation and integration tool, which helps its professional users to cut down drastically on data preparation time and costs. We import transactions from a multitude of reliable sources and export with one click to several professional accounting packages. RSDataWeb is currently mostly used by accountants that administer Self managed superfunds, family trusts and company accounts. Happy to present ourselves or ask client to present.
