Revegetation on Lady Elliot Island

R

Such an encouraging story – about the regeneration of Lady Elliot island from pretty much a dustbowl, to a thriving ecosystem.

Everything about this story is sooo good, from the initial plans of just planting trees, through to the goal self-sufficiency by this Christmas.

However the real triumph is that it is possible for anyone to accomplish:

“So, for me, let’s fix Lady Elliot Island and leave it better then when we found it. And if a little Aussie digger like me can do it, so can others.
“We can all make a difference and the planet is saveable. We’re all in this together. We’re all one family.”

Here’s what Lady Elliot Island has become.

Note: it wasn’t overnight – it took decades. Long term, incremental improvement.
