Online demo on how to use the mouse

Aleks at work sent this one around today – a demo on how to use the mouse. All you need to do is work out how to navigate through the web site and make it to the link and activate the link – all without using your mouse of course – in order to see the demo. Classic. Someone, somewhere is approving budget requests with the eagle-eyed financial scrutiny of the pointy haired...

Scott Scovell on BizTalk

My good friend Scott Scovell is back in the blogosphere, and creating quite a storm in the BizTalk world. Scott and I used to work together at Talman, but he's now with Mick Badran at Breeze (and I'm at Elcom as I'm sure you all well know :-) Check out these beauties from Scott: BizTalk Server 2006 R2 Download Installing BizTalk RFID DLP Design DSPI Provider fails to register in...

Chad Fowler on the Software Rewrite

Chad takes a look at why many projects fail when attempting the big rewrite. Written late last year (yikes! that's an eternity ago) the article is a series of insights in to common project failings. I especially relate to the Wishlist point (ie scope creep) which is the main issue that I've seen affecting projects of any type… 'Can we get some Web 2.0 experiences into this new...

Jonathan Schwartz is my new hero

I’ve been reading Jonathan’s blog for a while now (he’s the CEO of Sun) because I love his honesty, curiosity and ability to think right outside the square. His latest post on reducing waste by improving efficiency is so simple and common sense as to be jarring – it caught me completely by surprise. I’ll never look at a computer spec the same way again. Technorati...

HP Printer pranks

I'm not really one for office practical jokes, but this one from LifeHacker is pretty neat (if it is indeed real).
The joke involved changing the printer console to say 'INSERT COIN'. Pretty funny (well I think so).

Interwoven to buy Optimost

Interwoven (a pretty big CMS player) is to acquire Optimost (a pretty small web optimisation company) for $52M. This is of interest to me, being in the CMS space, because I'm seeing a lot happening by the big ECM (enterprise content management) players. Enterprise has woken up to the benefits of ECM and CMS and it is no longer a hard sell. Now is the time for rationalising as the big boys...

Microsoft has an acquisition KPI

Always one to one-up his Monkey boy grab of yesteryear, Steve this time tells the Web 2.0 conference that Microsoft will acquire 20 companies a year. Instead of outlining a strategy that details finding the best and most exciting technology companies and purchasing them (no matter how many, or what cost), he instead puts out a number (20) and a valuation range ($50M – $1B). Meaningless...

Scott Barnes and the RIA bridge

One thing I really like about Scott is that he doesn't hold back – he speaks his mind. At times you might resist a little too much bias, but this is a small cost compared to the value of his posts. His latest post on RIA is long (too long probably), but important reading for those following the RIA debate (what debate? I hear you ask :-). Whilst he touts maturity (namely...
