Augmented Reality with Gary Hayes at SBTUG

A

I wonder if you’ve spent much time considering what the benefits of Augmented Reality are for your business?

Personally I think Augmented Reality is soon going to be as significant as Location has become today. A few years ago people thought tracking your mobile phone location was only useful for freight companies. Now we know how much of a game-changer it has become with companies like foursquare, Gowalla, Twitter and Google Latitude all providing addictive tools and business models around location. Augmented Reality will be next.

But perhaps you’re not even sure what Augmented Reality is. In that case check out this quick 2 minute overview from the Common Craft dudes (hat tip to Mark Vozzo for the link):

So, with that in mind, the next question is: How can I take advantage of it in my business?
And to answer that question we’re lucky to have Gary Hayes (@GaryPHayes) presenting on the topic at SBTUG this Wednesday. He’s recognised as a global expert in Augmented Reality, as well as being an award winning new media producer, lecturer in transmedia & multi-platform at AFTRS and Director of LAMP. His Augmented Reality 101 and 16 Top Augmented Reality Business Models posts are recommend reading.

He’ll be explaining how Augmented Reality is being utilised by businesses to offer brand new services and products. This is a big opportunity and will become hugely popular in the next 12 months. Don’t miss his session.

Oh, and that’s only the first half of the night. After pizza Mark Vozzo will be giving us an overview on all the new things the Bing team have developed. There’s some really impressive stuff. I’ll cover this more in my next post.

It’s on this Wednesday 30 June, 2010 starting at 6pm, at Microsoft, North Ryde.

Full details of the night are on the SBTUG site, and I’d love you to RSVP here so that I cater effectively.
